Nebraska Environmental Trust funds eight research projects at Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. —The Nebraska Environmental Trust has awarded eight grants totaling more than $526,000 to University of Nebraska–Lincoln projects.

The annual grants went to one new project and seven that have been funded in past years, too.

Husker research focuses on atrazine

Lincoln, Neb. —A University of Nebraska–Lincoln project to detect atrazine dissipation and evaluate herbicide programs without atrazine has received a $47,154 grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

Amit Jhala, associate professor of agronomy and horticulture and Nebraska Extension weed management specialist, leads the project.

Project aims to reduce water, energy in ethanol production

Lincoln, Neb. —Nebraska researchers are studying how to make ethanol production more environmentally sensitive by reducing the amount of water and energy required to produce it and cutting the air emissions that result.

The Nebraska Environmental Trust is helping fund this University of Nebraska–Lincoln research — $155,663 this year and $44,232 in a second year.

Researchers tracking fertilizer runoff in streams

Lincoln, Neb. —A University of Nebraska–Lincoln project to track fertilizer and urban runoff in streams has received a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

Jessica Corman, assistant professor in the School of Natural Resources, leads the project, which received $11,202 in its third year of support from NET.

Berry study leads to sweet faculty startup

Lincoln, Neb. —When the American Aronia Berry Association approached Husker researcher Changmou Xu with a problem, he set out to solve it in a big way.

He and his wife and co-founder, Xiaoqing Xie, have worked with numerous campus entities to increase the value of the aronia berry through their startup, A+ Berry.
