Husker Genetics supports the development of the next generation of plant breeders at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) by producing and processing identity-preserved, distinct, uniform, and stable plant varieties, hybrids, and germplasm developed through UNL’s plant breeding programs. We collaborate with NUtech Ventures, UNL’s licensing and commercialization entity, to bring these innovations to market—fulfilling the University’s Land-Grant Mission by enhancing the lives of the people and communities of Nebraska.
Located at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead, Nebraska, Husker Genetics produces breeder and foundation class certified seed, as well as quality-assured identity-preserved seed.
Our processing facility features a 2,500-square-foot cold storage unit for extended preservation of breeder seed. We coordinate contract production across multiple species to maximize efficiency and ensure high-quality output.
All Agricultural Research Division intellectual property related to germplasm, varieties, and hybrids is managed by Husker Genetics. We also handle the submission of Plant Variety Protection (PVP) applications to protect UNL-developed plant innovations.
