Lincoln, Neb. —The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, West Central Research Extension and Education Center held its annual Water and Crops Field Day on Thursday, Aug. 24, in North Platte. One of the main topics in the morning dealt with cover crops. While cover crops are not a new idea, it has taken a while for them to become more mainstream.

Animal Science Researchers Receive $2.48 Million in USDA Grants Aimed at Improving Disease Resiliency and Animal Welfare in Swine Industry

Nebraska Extension aids growers with studies on wheat planting varieties

Lincoln, Neb. —The Hard Red Winter Wheat harvest is in the bins, and now growers are beginning to look at planting for next year’s crop. 

Nebraska Extension faculty were at the recent Kriesel Certified Seed event in Gurley, Neb., with some information for growers making planting decisions for the winter wheat crop.

UNL Chancellor and IANR Roads Scholars get to know Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. —The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) Roads Scholars Tour visited the Panhandle on Aug. 3. The group of 20-plus faculty stopped at Nebraska businesses and historical sites along the tour, with destination stops at Nebraska extension centers and labs.

‘Great Plains Sawfly Survey Project’ seeks grower input

Lincoln, Neb. —A group of researchers from Montana State University, Colorado State University, Kansas State University, and North Dakota State University are being led by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the USDA-Agriculture Research Service (ARS) to improve the understanding of producers’ needs considering the threat posed by the wheat stem sawfly.

Cover Crop Initiative Project has first Field Day in western Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. —The Cover Crop Initiative Project held its first field day at the Panhandle Research Education and Extension Center (PHREEC) in early May. This project represents a four-year collaborative agreement between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to foster understanding and promotion of cover crop use in Nebraska.
