At Husker Genetics, we grow more than seeds—we grow the future of plant breeding. As part of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), our mission is to support the next generation of plant breeders while bringing innovative, high-quality seeds from the lab to the field.

We work with NUtech Ventures, UNL’s licensing and commercialization partner, to develop and share unique, uniform, and stable plant varieties, hybrids, and germplasm. By doing so, we help fulfill UNL’s Land-Grant Mission: improving the lives of farmers, communities, and people across Nebraska.

Our operations are based at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead, Nebraska. Here, we produce breeder and foundation-class certified seeds and maintain identity-preserved seed lines with the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Our processing facility features a 2,500-square-foot cold storage unit ensures breeder seeds remain viable for extended periods. By coordinating production across multiple species, we maximize efficiency while delivering consistent, premium-quality seed.

Husker Genetics also manages all Agricultural Research Division intellectual property, including germplasm, varieties, and hybrids. We handle Plant Variety Protection (PVP) applications, safeguarding UNL-developed innovations so they can continue to benefit farmers, researchers, and communities for years to come.
